What is FUROSHIKI?
It is a square cloth made of silk, cotton, rayon or other synthetic material to transport one's personal effects.
The charm of Furoshiki cloth is, you can tie furoshiki in all different kinds of ways to suit the size and shape of the contents within. This simple cloth is handy for carrying items easily without damaging their shape and they are also very versatile, their number of uses stretching as far as your imagination, as they can even be used as mats and for storage as well. When not in use, furoshiki fold up compactly, a quality that bags and baskets do not possess.

This is one of Utamaro's masterpiece. A young women is playing a poppin' which is a small grass toy. She is blowing it to make a popping sound. The bright red checkered pattern kimono is absolutely sublime.
